Saachi Rana is the Founder and Principal Designer of Saachi Rana Design Studio, a multidisciplinary design atelier working across architecture, interiors, collectible furniture, product design, and brand experiences.
Having grown up in a family of National Award-winning sculptors, Saachi was immersed in art from an early age, where creativity was seen as a way of life. That fundamental foundation continues to influence how she approaches design today. Saachi says,
“At the studio, we don’t just design spaces. We build identities. Every home, retail store, hospitality project, or experience is approached like couture. It is tailored, layered, and deeply personal. Just as a couture garment is crafted for one individual, every space we create is designed exclusively for the people who inhabit it. No repetitions, no templates, no shortcuts.”
The Creative Influence
Saachi was driven by the belief that spaces should evoke emotion before admiration. Being brought up around artists taught her to value quality craftsmanship, diligence, and the time it took to create something meaningful.
Her travels, studies, regular exposure to fashion and architecture, and admiration for different cultures further shaped her understanding of design.
Saachi understood early on that she was not interested in simply decorating spaces. She sought to use design to tell stories. That eventually led her to start her own studio, beginning with a handful of projects, endless curiosity, and a strong attention to detail. She tells us,
“Over time, clients began trusting us not just with their homes but also with their dreams, their businesses, and their personal stories. That trust has always been the biggest inspiration.”
The Signature Approach
Saachi Rana Design Studio stands out through a couture approach to design, where every space is designed around the individual rather than a preset aesthetic. Each project takes into account the client’s lifestyle, personality, aspirations, and emotional connection to the space. Drawing inspiration from fashion, art, travel, history, and craftsmanship, the studio creates spaces that feel eclectic and deeply intimate rather than merely decorated. Saachi highlights,
“For our commercial projects, the design goes far beyond the walls. We invest equal thought into branding, customer experience, spatial storytelling, and brand identity because architecture and branding should speak the same language. When someone walks into a space, they should instantly understand the brand without needing to read a logo.”
Another defining element is the studio’s commitment to Indian craftsmanship. Saachi works with artisans and integrates traditional techniques into contemporary spaces, with a particular emphasis on preserving craftsmanship while making it relevant to modern design.
The Growing Pains
One of the primary concerns posed has been reconciling creativity with the realities of running a design studio. Managing timelines, budgets, vendors, clients, and unexpected site challenges requires constant attention, with every project carrying its own set of demands. Reflecting on the journey, Saachi states,
“Personally, balancing entrepreneurship, motherhood, and creativity has reshaped my perspective. It taught me that leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about building a team that shares your vision and trusting them enough to let them shine.”
Another essential lesson has been the value of transparency. Saachi feels that clients respond more positively to honest communication and thoughtful approaches than to promises of perfection, making trust and transparency central to how she manages projects and relationships.
Marks of Success
“Success has never been about the number of projects we’ve completed. It’s about whether a client walks into the finished space and says, “This feels exactly like us.” That moment means we’ve done our job.”
To date, the studio has designed luxury residences, flagship retail stores, hospitality spaces, and projects for notable individuals and brands.
Having its work published and recognised has been rewarding, but Saachi considers becoming a studio that clients return to, recommend, and trust with each new chapter of their lives to be the greatest achievement.
The Next Chapter
The vision is to evolve the studio into a global design house that brings together architecture, interiors, collectible furniture, objects, art, styling, and immersive brand experiences. Saachi plans to expand internationally while continuing to promote Indian craftsmanship on a global stage, ensuring that every project retains a sense of authenticity and timelessness.
As the studio continues to grow, Saachi is still focused on maintaining the qualities that define the business. Her goal is to keep the studio deeply personal, detail-driven, and design-led regardless of how large it becomes.
Lessons Learned
The journey has been rewarding, offering Saachi valuable experiences and lessons along the way. Saachi holds the view that a strong business should be built around values rather than current trends. She says originality is more important than trying to replicate what is already a hit, and that developing and protecting a unique point of view is necessary in a competitive industry.
As she leaves a note for budding entrepreneurs, she reiterates,
“Never underestimate the power of relationships. Design is a people-first industry. Listen carefully, collaborate generously, respect the craftsmen who bring your ideas to life, and treat every project as if it’s the only one that matters. And finally, stay curious. The day you stop learning from travel, art, fashion, architecture, culture, conversations, and even your clients is the day your work stops evolving. Creativity thrives on curiosity, and I hope I never lose mine.”
