Beyond the Agency Model: How Sonalika Pawar Is Shaping the Future of Integrated Communications

“Reputation compounds. Every decision, every relationship, and every promise you keep contributes to the business you're building. Businesses aren't built by growing the fastest; they're built by growing with intention. Focus on doing good work consistently, and the growth will follow."

Sonalika Pawar is the Founder & CEO of Bold & Beyond, an integrated PR & Communications consultancy helping brands build stronger visibility, reputation, and market presence through strategic communications.

Founded in 2021 and built entirely without external funding, Bold & Beyond was created to address a structural gap in the communications industry. While brands increasingly worked with separate agencies for PR, influencer marketing, branding, digital and content, the lack of strategic integration often resulted in fragmented communication and inconsistent brand experiences. Bold & Beyond was built on the belief that brands need a single strategic partner capable of bringing these disciplines together under one cohesive vision.

Today, the consultancy brings together public relations, influencer marketing, branding, design, digital marketing, strategic partnerships and content under one roof, enabling businesses to execute integrated communication strategies rather than managing multiple agency relationships.

In just under five years, the company has grown from a two-member startup into a 60-member team with teams across Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad while serving clients in the USA, Singapore, France and Portugal.

Bold & Beyond has partnered with more than 500 brands, including Disney, The Ritz-Carlton, Groww, MakeMyTrip, The Leela Palace Hotels & Resorts, Victoria’s Secret, BMW and Swiggy, positioning itself as a long-term strategic communications partner rather than a conventional agency.

Rethinking the Agency Model

In a freewheeling chat, Sonalika explains that she was inspired by a gap she saw throughout her career in communications. She noticed that brands were often working with multiple agencies for PR, influencer marketing, digital, branding, and content, leading to fragmented strategies and inconsistent execution. Sonalika further reveals,

“On the other hand, larger network agencies often lacked the agility and personal involvement that growing brands needed, while smaller boutique firms frequently didn’t have the breadth of capabilities to deliver integrated, business-first solutions. This gap was especially evident in South India, where brands were looking for a partner that combined strategic thinking, creativity and execution under one roof.”

Built without external funding, the company focused on bespoke strategies, integrated thinking and long-term partnerships rather than transactional mandates. Today, Bold & Beyond has evolved into a multi-city consultancy serving across India and international markets.

More Than a Communications Agency

What differentiates Bold & Beyond is its integrated, strategy-first approach.Instead of operating as a traditional PR agency or offering isolated services, the company brings together public relations, influencer marketing, branding, design, digital, strategic partnerships, and content under one roof.

This enables clients to work with a single partner that understands business objectives first and then builds communication strategies around them.

Equally important is the consultancy’s bespoke approach. Every engagement is designed around a brand’s stage of growth, commercial priorities and target audience, allowing the team to operate as an extension of clients’ leadership and marketing teams rather than an external service provider.

Rising to the Challenge

One of Sonalika’s biggest challenges has been scaling the business without compromising the qualities that made it successful in the first place.

As Bold & Beyond grew rapidly, the pressure to hire faster, expand into new markets, and serve larger clients increased. The challenge was to maintain the same level of strategic thinking, creativity, and personalised service while growing the team and business. Sonalika says,

“It would have been easy to prioritise growth over culture or chase revenue at the expense of quality, but we consciously chose otherwise.”

At the same time, she had to prove that a young, independent consultancy could compete with some of the established global agency networks. Instead of viewing size as a disadvantage, she turned it into the company’s biggest strength by moving faster, thinking more strategically, and working as an extension of clients’ marketing teams. She further notes,

“Within three years, we were competing against agencies that had been around for decades and winning marquee mandates because of the strength of our ideas, agility and business-first approach.”

Measuring Success Beyond Growth

“While growth is important, I look at a broader set of indicators, like the longevity of our client relationships, the trust we’re able to build, the careers we help shape, and the tangible business outcomes our work delivers. If our communications strategy can influence perception, strengthen brands and contribute to commercial growth, we’ve done our job well.”

Built without external funding, the business has expanded internationally, maintained an employee retention rate of over 75%, and scaled profitably while building long-term client relationships.

The consultancy’s work has been recognised through several industry honours, including Outlook Traveller’s Top Agencies to Watch Out For (2022). Sonalika herself has also been recognised through platforms such as BW Businessworld 40 Under 40, the Foxglove Awards 2025 and the PR Moment Health & Wellness Communications Awards 2026.

Yet, she considers the company’s greatest achievement to be earning the continued trust of clients who choose Bold & Beyond for some of their most significant business and brand milestones.

Building for the Long Term

For now, Sonalika shares that her future plans are focused on scaling Bold & Beyond with purpose rather than scale alone. The vision is to build the company into one of India’s most respected independent integrated communications consultancies with a strong international presence and a reputation for delivering strategic business impact beyond traditional PR. To achieve this, as Sonalika asserts,

“Bold & Beyond  will continue strengthening specialised practice areas, expanding our leadership team, investing in technology-enabled communications, leveraging data-driven insights and building deeper capabilities across emerging sectors.”

Other plans include nurturing future industry leaders and creating a culture where talent can innovate, take ownership, and grow.

For Sonalika, the ambition extends beyond building a successful company, it is about building an institution that creates lasting value for brands, empowers people, and raises the benchmark for the communications industry.

A Founder’s Perspective

A lesson learned that Sonalika wants to amplify is that building a lasting business requires patience, consistency, and resilience.

She highlights that there are no shortcuts to long-term success and that real growth comes from showing up every day, making difficult decisions, and staying committed to a vision even when results take time. Sonalika has also learned that businesses scale through people, she adds,

“I’ve also learned that growth isn’t just about acquiring more clients; it’s about building the right team, surrounding yourself with people who challenge your thinking, and creating a culture where ownership and accountability thrive. Businesses scale because people do.”

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is,

“Don’t be afraid to start before you have all the answers. Be ambitious, stay adaptable, and never lose sight of why you started in the first place. The business you build will evolve, and so will you and that’s not a weakness, it’s part of the journey.”
