Dream Big, Achieve Bigger:  Sumit Kashyap’s Journey of Turning Failures into a 7-Figure Agency

Founder of MarketoZilla in Conversation with Entrepreneurs Today

Entrepreneurs Today recently had the pleasure of interviewing Sumit Kashyap, the founder of MarketoZilla, a marketing agency that has made significant waves since its inception in 2019.

Under Sumit’s visionary leadership, MarketoZilla has successfully collaborated with over 350 business owners and has played a pivotal role in helping more than 10,000 freelancers and agency owners scale their operations.

In addition to his work with MarketoZilla, Sumit also runs ScaleMAX, a premium coaching program designed specifically for emerging entrepreneurs, freelancers and agency owners. Established two years ago, ScaleMAX provides targeted support in acquiring clients, building systems, and developing essential business growth skills. 

The program includes a premium tier for those aiming to surpass monthly revenues of 10 lakh rupees per month. While currently integrated with MarketoZilla, Sumit has plans to spin off ScaleMAX into its own separate entity in the near future.

Getting Started

Sumit’s journey is one of resilience and determination. After graduating in 2016, he ventured into various fields, including acting, music, anchoring etc. but struggled to find his direction. His turning point came when he attended a webinar where the presenter earned over 4.5 lakh rupees in just two hours. 

What he had seen during the webinar got him interested in digital marketing, Sumit pursued extensive learning and taken mentorship in the field, which eventually led him to establish MarketoZilla in 2019. Today, he operates as the sole founder, supported by a dedicated team.

Interviewer: The market is saturated with advertising and marketing agencies. What do you believe sets MarketoZilla apart?

Sumit: “Indeed, the market is crowded, but many agencies only focus on providing leads. At MarketoZilla, we focus on scaling our clients’ businesses comprehensively. We optimize sales funnels, automate processes, and provide growth strategies that go beyond just generating leads. For instance, we recently scaled a company from 20-25 lakh rupees a month to 2.4 crore in three months. Results start showing within the first week of running advertisements. For scaling, three months is a great time to see significant growth.”

MarketoZilla offers a range of services, including Facebook and Google advertising, optimizing customer journeys through the right funnels, providing automation services such as email and WhatsApp automation, and sales training to enhance the sales process.

Navigating Challenges

Sumit’s journey has not been without challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic compounded issues related to Client acquisition, funding, and overall setup. Being bootstrapped, MarketoZilla had to manage everything with limited resources. Managing client communication and project management manually was particularly time-consuming and inefficient. Sumit reflects on the early days.

 “Running advertisements and managing revenue was challenging. Initially, we ran ads for ourselves to grow our business, but we faced issues and struggled to get results. As we started getting leads, we had to find ways to automate the process to save time and effort.”

Currently, the challenges include optimizing daily operations, handling competitive offers, and refining performance metrics.

Interviewer: What did it take to start your own agency, and what was the initial investment?

Sumit: “The initial investment was minimal. With a laptop, internet connection, and the right skills, you can start. The main investment was in learning and acquiring the necessary high-income skills to reach out to clients to help them grow.”

Celebrating Feats

Sumit’s career is marked by significant achievements. He is the recipient of two FlexiFunnels Achievers Awards for 2023 and 2024 for generating over 2.3 Crores in a year for his Agency. As the founder of a seven-figure agency, he has played a pivotal role in helping over 350+ businesses in the past five years. 

Through ScaleMAX, Sumit has guided more than 10,000 freelancers and agency owners via webinars and workshops, invested over 15 crore rupees in Facebook ads, and conducted over 2,000 one-on-one sales calls.

Future Looks Bright

Looking ahead, Sumit plans to further scale his agency, focusing on delivering exceptional results and expanding ScaleMAX into a separate vertical.

“We are focusing more on the quality of clients rather than the number of clients we acquire. We plan to work with fewer clients in the coming years, but they should be of very high quality. Our criteria are that clients should have at least a five lakh rupees per month budget to get started. We are looking for top-notch clients. In the next five years, we aim to hit 100 CR using our agency. Let’s see how far we go, but this is the plan we are working towards.”

Additionally, Sumit is in the early stages of developing SAAS products, with plans to launch them in the coming years. ScaleMAX has an ambitious goal of reaching 1 million people within five years, offering direct premium mentorship and support to expedite their success in the digital field. Sumit addresses a common pain point he has noticed:

“Many people want to get into the digital field, but they lack the right guidance. They take courses but don’t get the necessary knowledge or support for implementation. No one is there to guide them.”

To address this, Sumit has launched a premium mentorship program where participants can interact with him directly.

Sumit: “In this program, you can directly interact with me. Whenever you face any problem, we are there to support you throughout the period by on-demand One-on-one personalized Calls and Weekly Growth Sessions. You can interact with me during our sessions, and if you have any problems, you can book your personalized calls, and we will identify the problems and solve them. This will help you grow way faster. Instead of taking five years to achieve your goals, you can achieve it in six months.”

Takeaways from the Journey

Sumit has learned several valuable lessons throughout his career. One key lesson is that failure is often a crucial stepping stone to success. He asserts,

“Every successful person has faced failure. For example, I was confused and tried different things in my early days. I tried music, anchoring, theatre, customer management, and technical roles, and I faced failure in all of them. When I started my agency, it was tough to get clients initially. There were multiple failures, but consistency and learning from these failures helped me achieve consistent revenue.”

Sumit emphasizes the importance of understanding the reasons behind failures and improving those areas. Having a mentor can significantly accelerate progress, saving years of struggle by getting guidance and insights. Lastly, he says,

“If you have a mentor to guide you, it can accelerate your progress much faster. There are many books and resources for guidance, and implementing their lessons can lead to gradual success over time.”
